Morning Sickness.....does it ever end?

Everyone told me morning sickness goes by twelve weeks; well at 17 weeks I’m still sick, morning, noon & night! I’ve tried everything from homeopathy, old wives tales, to sleeping with a biscuit tin by my bed! My midwife suggests that maybe I’m a little stressed (understatement of the year), and I should take things easy…

Last week we woke up to find our kitchen underwater and my cottage which already suffered from issues with damp is now up for a complete renovation! The only room in the house unaffected is the proposed nursery, great we can all live in there....So how do you cope with constant nausea, a houseful of builders and no water? The only available solution is to move in with my parents... I don’t wish to sound ungrateful, as they have been more than accommodating, but there are only so many little words of advice, force-feeding, and home remedies a pregnant girl can take!

In the midst of all this chaos my pursuit for alternative maternity options continues. Endless emails to independent midwives, consultant secretaries and various hospitals has resulted in me entertaining the idea of a homebirth, with as little fuss as possible, with a midwife whom I know and trust. (Assuming of course, I still have a house by then and it hasn’t been washed away!)
This concept raises more than a few eyebrows, evokes a cascade of horror stories and scares the living daylights out of my husband!
However I have finally found a consultant based in Harpenden to take on my ante-natal, and a midwife who hopefully can fit me in! It’s amazing how booked up everyone seems to get; I thought the waiting lists started when you were applying for schools not trying to give birth!

I had a facial a couple of weeks a go as my skin was so dehydrated from all the sickness, and I have to say I thoroughly recommend it. An hour to yourself with relaxing music and the healthy glow you are left with, made me feel sooooo much better. A dermatologist friend also advised against expensive beauty products as your skin will change all the time; exfoliate with porridge oats and use sudo-cream on spots or rashes! It really works.
I’m addicted to the Mamma Mio products though and swear by them if only for the feeling you get from their scent! I am also drinking peppermint tea which does help you feel better if only psychologically! Next week I’m giving reflexology a go so I’ll keep you posted.

If anyone has any advice on how to combat the sickness & nausea, I’ll try anything!

Merry Christmas, Becky x
