Bumps and Babies Mile For Sport Relief

TV personality Denise Van Outen, who is expecting her first child, has recruited a team of pregnant celebrities and famous new mums to undertake the first ever 'Bumps and Babies Mile' in aid of Sport Relief.
The challenge which takes place over 16 flagship events across the UK on Sunday 21st of March, and asks participants to walk, run, or jog1 mile and raise sponsorship to help some of the worlds most impoverished people - so mum's and bumps get in gear to stretch your legs for a good cause.

Denise said of the Sport Relief event: "A group of heavily pregnant women and power-pramming mums waddling around Battersea Park will probably be quite amusing, but it will prove that anyone and everyone can join in the fun and rise to the challenge by getting sponsored to do the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile."

Natasha Kaplinsky who is also undertaking the mile thanked Denise "for proving that new mums and pregnant ladies can rise to the challenge in our own way" The team of ladies will be out in force to show that everyone can take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, whether they run, walk, or waddle the distance!

Wellbeing of Women's lunch with PM's wife Sarah Brown

Calling all ladies... if you haven't head of the Wellbeing of Women charity then listen up as it speaks to us all ! 'WOW' is a charity set up for women, by women, and is chaired by the actually wonderful PM's wife Sarah Brown. The charity's purpose is to research, educate, and preserve women's health, combating issues and diseases such as HRT, breast cancer, & gynaecological cancers.

me & the amazing 'Mrs B', aka Joan Burnstein founder of fashion stores Browns
I attended their annual lunch debate along with 200 inspiring and influential women. Sarah Brown spoke truly from the heart, and brought home the importance of ' Looking after "us".... because without us, there is no mummy, sister, daughter, wife or friend to act as the glue and pivotal role in our lives. Investing time in looking after yourself is not selfish, but selfless, and the security of knowledge in good health, equals security for your family. '

Educating women about their bodies from a young age, and ensuring preventative tests are taken throughout women's lives would save so much. These points highlight some of the primary concerns for 2010 from the lunch debate:
  • HRT should be an individual decision for each women being well informed about the relative risks

  • All daughters should be encouraged to have the HPV vaccine

  • "Are our cancer services what we should expect" revealed that whilst most thought the NHS was excellent at dealing with those suffering from cancer, more medical research needed to be done for better treatment and prevention and there should be more education and awareness so women could keep themselves well.

So spread the word, and push yourselves, your sisters, your mothers and your friends to have the tests you may not have had - be empowered by the knowledge of your health, and don't be afraid to grill doctors with questions throughout every chapter of your life....as well we all know, it's women that make the wheels go round !
