Amoralia's Bra Fitting advice

There is nothing more depressing than disliking the first piece of clothing your put on in the morning! With our gorgeous new styles from Amoralia there is now no excuse for ill fitting dowdy maternity or feeding bra's . To help find the perfect fit. Amoralia founder Jules Fosset has lent us her valuable advice .....

JULES'S TIPS:

It’s important to wear a 'soft' or non-wired bra as the underwire in a normal bra can create pressure on delicate breast tissue and sometimes cause inflammation – known as mastitis.
You’ll probably start looking for a maternity bra 3 or so months into your pregnancy when you’ll notice your breasts becoming tender, getting larger and your rib cage expanding. The increase in weight and size of the breast will also cause the skin to stretch and the breast to drop, which is why it is important to be fitted for a new bra regularly. A good fitting, specifically designed maternity bra can prevent and minimise stretch marks and discomfort, keep you cool and absorb any leaking fluid.

When buying a maternity bra, you should make sure that you give yourself room to grow so make sure that it fits snugly on the tightest hook. The opposite is true for a nursing bra – you should fit it on the loosest hook so that you can tighten it as your ribcage falls back to its natural place. Make sure that there’s enough room for a breast pad; check by placing your hand in the cup. Ideally you should be fitted by a trained bra fitter as they will be able to take your body shape, bust shape, brand quirks and budget into consideration, but if you’re short of time, measuring yourself is easy. Nursing bras should have breathable, natural fibre linings, supportive straps and easy to open nursing clips. As your cup size will be changing a lot – you can gain up to a cup size between feeds – you’ll need to look for a bra that’s stretchy but still supportive. You’ll need 4 or 5 bras; one to wear, a spare to carry, one to sleep in and you’ll probably have one or two in the wash. But practicality doesn’t have to mean an end to style!
