Finding the perfect fit maternity jeans can be daunting, but with the widest online selection of designer maternity jeans, we have pooled our expertise and tips on finding the right style for you and your bump:


A good pair of jeans is an essential maternity investment as you are likely to wear them at least 5 days out of 7, so it is important to buy the right pair for you and your shape.

First you need to get to grips with the different ‘bump-band’ options available for maternity. It is really down to the individuals shape and size as to which is more comfortable, and this diagram (below) shows the difference between them, and which brands feature which band.

We normally advise to buy one size up from your pre-pregnancy size for a pair to see you through your pregnancy, however it totally depends on how much you have expanded around the middle, the thighs, and which style of bump band you are looking at. All our jeans are 34inches long on the inside leg.

Next, choose which leg you’re looking for; straight leg, boot-cut, skinny, flare, and cropped are the classic legs that we carry all year round, and they all come in various different washes, to enable you to choose smart, casual or evening denim styles.

Our favourites are the Willow skinny’s from Paige premium denim, which along with being a rich dark Indigo hue, have a super comfortable higher than normal bump band, designed to fit snugly up over your bump.

• Kate Moss’s favourite denim label J-Brand also have gorgeous skinny maternity jeans which feature stretchy elastic inserts in the waistband, meaning once on, you can hardly tell they are maternity jeans ! Another high fashion jean made famous by Ms Moss are J-Brand’s Lovestory jeans – so popular they have been made into maternity jeans! A fabulous wide-leg flare they are right on trend come winter or summer.

• Those looking for trusty classic boot-cuts, there is plenty of choice now between brands washes and pocket detail. Our best selling styles at mama-la-mode have to be the Laurel Canyon by Paige Premium Denim which we also have all year round in white, and the Faye Wide Leg by Citizens of Humanity along with the Kelly Boot Cut. A boot-cut is always more flattering for those with larger hips, and will wear well as an everyday jean – you really cannot go wrong with any of these styles.


• A straight leg is perfect for evening and teaming with heels for an elegant elongated look; the Melrose by Paige are a lovely smart dark blue, and also come in white.
